Display and Networking Options

 There are many different use cases for mermAId and accordingly, we have designed
it to be used displayed and controlled with several different methods. Please see
below for the ways that you can interact with mermAId.

  • Touchscreen

    Great for onshore mermAId installations or helms with sufficient space to have a dedicated mermAId touchscreen display. The mermAId touchscreen display (sold separately) directly receives the feed from your mermAId device without any need for connecting your mermAId or your mobile device to a network.

  • Mobile App with Router

    If you do not have a wireless router on your vessel, but still would like to connect wireless to your mermAId, connect your mobile phone or tablet to the wireless network that is broadcast from the mermAId device. Using the mermAId mobile app, you will receive a live feed from the connected mermAId device.

    Notes:
    If your mobile device is connected to the WLAN broadcasted from the mermAId device, you will be unable to access the internet while directly connected. If you would also like to connect to the internet, please use the “Mobile App with Router” option

  • Ethernet Connection with Router

    If you have an available router, you can optionally connect the mermAId device to your onboard network via ethernet. You can connect to the mermAId over a local network connection via the mermAId mobile app (mobile device or tablet) or from a laptop or desktop on the same network.

  • Ethernet Connection without Router

    You can connect directly to a mermAId device by running an ethernet cable between the mermAId device and a laptop or desktop computer. Follow instructions in the Quick Start guide to set the mermAId device to a Static IP address.

For clearest and highest signal reception for your mermAId device, mount a
standalone marine VHF antenna connected directly to your mermAId device via
coax VHF cable. Mount this antenna 6 feet from other RF emitters.
